Scientists describe the gross reason why your eyes sometimes sting, turn red in swimming pools - The Washington Post

Read the full article: Scientists describe the gross reason why your eyes sometimes sting, turn red in swimming pools - The Washington Post:

"The CDC also said in its report that the chlorine smell of pools isn't actually what you think. "What you smell are actually chemicals that form when chlorine mixes with pee, poop, sweat and dirt from swimmer's bodies... These chemicals -- not chlorine -- can cause your eyes to get red and sting, make your nose run, and make you cough."

"Yuck!" the CDC concluded."

Prostate Health - Drink Red Wine and Green Tea

Green tea leaves steeping in an uncovered zhon...Image via Wikipedia
Jackpot! Two of my favorite beverages.  During the weekday, I drink a cup or two of green tea at work. Every evening, I try to have a glass or two of red wine with dinner.

I 'm hoping the prostate health benefit is real, as reported by this FASEB Journal article, Polyphenols in red wine and green tea halt prostate cancer growth.  The Journal reports:

"In what could lead to a major advance in the treatment of prostate cancer, scientists now know exactly why polyphenols in red wine and green tea inhibit cancer growth. This new discovery explains how antioxidants in red wine and green tea produce a combined effect to disrupt an important cell signaling pathway necessary for prostate cancer growth. This finding is important because it may lead to the development of drugs that could stop or slow cancer progression, or improve current treatments."

Drink 3 to 5 Glasses of Red Wine to Prevent Heart Attacks

---  the original post follows below  ---

I was originally disappointed when I first scanned this Medical News Today article, Resveratrol May Replace Aspirin As Heart Protector; Longevinex® First Branded Resveratrol Pill Successfully Tested During Heart Attack.

As a red wine lover, my disappointment turned to joy when I read this:
The amount of resveratrol in 3 to 5 glasses of red wine is only about 3-5 milligrams, but the heart protective effect is believed to be produced by the total polyphenolic molecules in a glass of dark, aged red wine, ~60 milligrams per 5-ounce glass. The optimal health benefit derived from red wine is achieved at a consumption level of 3-5 glasses, which would be considerably more expensive than a resveratrol pill, and certainly pose the problem of inebriation.
In a nutshell, I get to drink red wine to, pardon the pun, to my heart's content!
