FDA Protects Patients from Harmful Drugs Through the Drug Supply Chain Security Act - FDA.gov

According to the article:

"Ensuring reliable patient access to safe and effective medicines requires every link in the supply chain to be secure: from the moment a drug leaves the manufacturer until it reaches a pharmacy or health care professional’s offices. Since 2013, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has been implementing the Drug Supply Chain Security Act, a law known as DSCSA. This law gives the FDA more regulatory tools to detect and help ensure the removal of dangerous drugs from the supply chain, such as those that may be counterfeit, stolen, contaminated, or otherwise harmful."

Yes, Mark Cuban did start a real online drugstore - ABC10

Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company is a real wholesale drug distributor that works with an accredited pharmacy.

According to the article:

"Mark Cuban’s online drugstore, Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company, is a legitimate online store to buy medication. It’s registered as a “wholesale drug distributor” instead of a “pharmacy” because Mark Cuban’s store does not fill prescriptions itself — it works with a partner pharmacy to dispense medication."

"TruePill, Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company’s pharmaceutical partner, is an accredited digital pharmacy with the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) and its accreditation was confirmed through email by an NABP spokesperson."

FDA Approves First Long-Acting HIV Drug Combo - VOA

According to the article:

"The two-injection combination treatment is called Cabenuva. The drug is expected to make it easier for people to receive their HIV medicines and to do so with more privacy. The injections mark a big change from methods used in the past. Those treatments required patients to take multiple pills several times a day, carefully timed around meals.

Dr. Steven Deeks is an HIV specialist at the University of California, San Francisco. He told The Associated Press that the new treatment can make patients’ lives better because it is only needed once a month. “People don’t want those daily reminders that they’re HIV infected,” Deeks said."

FDA calls states’ bluffs on drug importation - STAT News

According to the article:
"For decades, critics of the U.S. drug pricing system have advocated importing drugs from Canada as a convenient shortcut to lower prices. The Food and Drug Administration’s recent release of a proposed regulation to create a process for approving state-sponsored importation plans is one step closer to that goal. A closer look shows that it’s actually a false step."

FDA approves first two-drug complete regimen for HIV-infected patients who have never received antiretroviral treatment - FDA.gov

Read the full press release:

FDA approves first two-drug complete regimen for HIV-infected patients who have never received antiretroviral treatment - FDA.gov

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration . . .

"approved Dovato (dolutegravir and lamivudine), as a complete regimen for the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection in adults with no antiretroviral treatment history and with no known or suspected substitutions associated with resistance to the individual components of Dovato. This is the first FDA-approved two-drug, fixed-dose, complete regimen for HIV-infected adults who have never received treatment for HIV.
“Currently, the standard of care for patients who have never been treated is a three-drug regimen. With this approval, patients who have never been treated have the option of taking a two-drug regimen in a single tablet while eliminating additional toxicity and potential drug interactions from a third drug,” said Debra Birnkrant, M.D., Director of the Division of Antiviral Products. “Having a drug-sparing treatment available that uses fewer drugs is beneficial to patients who may have issues taking multiple medications over a long period of time.”"

Six Ways Amazon Could Invade the Pharmacy Business - Bloomberg

Read all the six ways:  Six Ways Amazon Could Invade the Pharmacy Business - Bloomberg:

"Amazon already owns wholesale distribution licenses in at least 13 states and could build its own pharmacy business from scratch, restructuring the drug supply chain in the process. Destroying the FDA to save it? No, more like just destroying it. – Respectful Insolence

Look into this crystal ball:  Destroying the FDA to save it? No, more like just destroying it. – Respectful Insolence:

"First the 21st Century Cures Act passes, weakening the FDA. Next, we’ll very likely end up with either a batshit nutty libertarian who doesn’t believe the FDA should require evidence of efficacy before approving drugs or a real, honest-to-goodness pharma shill as the next commissioner of the FDA. It’s going to be a long four years."

"“It’s not just for the U.S. FDA, also the China FDA is understaffed as well,” said Jonathan Chan, an analyst in Hong Kong with Decision Resources Group, citing the size of the industry and the large number of drug applications. “It’s quite overwhelming. With agencies being understaffed, quality control and standards will get compromised.”"

Read the full article: Supplement-Maker Who Diluted Products With Other Powders Sentenced To 40 Months In Prison – Consumerist:

"When you buy a food product or a dietary supplement, you should be confident that the product’s ingredients are listed on the label, and that you’re getting what you paid for. Federal prosecutors say that one dietary supplement wholesaler in New Jersey spent four years selling products diluted with products like maltodextrin or rice flour, increasing profits but defrauding customers. The company’s owner now must forfeit $1 million in profits and has been sentenced to 40 months in prison and one year of supervised release."

Drug Making Breaks Away From Its Old Ways - WSJ

Read the full article: Drug Making Breaks Away From Its Old Ways - WSJ:

"Under the new approach, raw materials are fed into a single, continuously running process. Many other industries adopted such a “continuous-manufacturing” approach years ago, because quality can be checked without interrupting production—with weeks shaved off production times and operating expenses cut by as much as 50%.

Until recently, pharmaceutical companies have been stuck making drugs the old-fashioned way, mixing ingredients in large vats and in separate steps, often at separate plants and with no way to check for quality until after each step is finished. Any desire to modernize was partly blunted, industry officials say, by the high margins netted on the industry’s string of billion-dollar-selling drugs."
