Read the full article: Marijuana Considered for Looser Restrictions by U.S. FDA - Bloomberg:

"U.S. regulators are studying whether restrictions on marijuana should be eased, a step toward decriminalizing the drug at the federal level.

The Food and Drug Administration is conducting an analysis at the Drug Enforcement Administration’s request on whether the U.S. should downgrade the classification of marijuana as a Schedule 1 drug, said Douglas Throckmorton, Deputy Director for Regulatory Programs at the FDA, at a congressional hearing."

Bath Salts and the Naked Cannibal

I'm a little behind the times, because I'm just learning a little more about "bath salts" because of the naked man cannibal incident.

Sometimes packaged as bath salts or plant food and marketed under names such as "Purple Wave," "Vanilla Sky" and "Bliss," the stimulants are especially popular among teens and young adults and are perceived as mimics of cocaine, LSD and methamphetamine. The DEA says users have reported disorientation, extreme paranoia and violent episodes after ingesting the chemicals. They are sold on the Internet and in head shops and other retail outlets.

LSD Research Returns - FDA and Regulatory Oversight

Lysergic acid diethylamideImage via Wikipedia

What a surprise to read this fascinating San Francisco Chronical article, LSD's long, strange trip back into the lab. According to the article:

It still isn't easy to get an LSD study off the ground. Researchers must get permission from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Drug Enforcement Administration plus state regulators, and they need approval from the institution they work for. Then they have to get approval for the source of the actual drug - in the case of UCSF, researchers are using LSD that was manufactured years ago in Switzerland.
