The fight is far from over. HIV continues to threaten the health of many communities in the United States. CDC data indicate that more than 1.1 million Americans live with HIV, and that an estimated 56,000 new infections occur in the United States every year. Some populations are harder hit than others. For example, it particularly affects gay and bisexual men, and affects African-Americans and Hispanics more than whites.
