Bottomline, you want to wash your hands with soap and water by scrubbing well for at least 20 seconds, and alcohol hand gels are a good second choice. When drying your hands, one advantage of using paper towels, is that you can use the towel to touch a potentially contaminated bathroom door handle when exiting.
